In general, many Victorian gothic story tropes, and a few non-mythos Lovecraftian ones, have been woven into the setting with zombies. The existence of zombies (and later, vampires), has spurred medical research advancements faster than other fields of science, with a focus on life extension and reanimation. The air is thick with soot from the crematoriums used to dispose of the dead, while also running the Tesla towers that power the city. Arable land is scarce, and mostly owned by the aristocracy. The city is a cramped, walled fortress, including interior sections that can be used to partition the city during zombie outbreaks. But behind this façade, the world is rotten to the core. Society continues to emulate the Victorian age, seeing it as the pinnacle of civilization. The setting then jumps forward 200 years to the post-post-apocalypse, focusing on London, England. Unhallowed Metropolis - In 1905, a strange Blight affects the earth, bringing along with it a zombie apocalypse, devastating much of the world. Use what you want, ignore what you don't. There's a completely optional system of "magic", if you want to add that to your games - such as priests healing comrades with a prayer, or turning back zombies with the power of their faith, that kind of thing. ![]() ![]() The core book allows you to custom craft the zombies you want (slow shufflers, fast berserkers, vampiric, infectious or not, how can they be killed, do they regenerate, etc., etc.) As for PCs, you also get a bunch of sample templates for playing the kind of people in zombie movies (military vet, soccer mom, Wall Street guy, priest, motorcycle dude, lots more) as well as complete rules for making up your own archetypes. The game core book gives you everything you need to play, but there are about a dozen sourcebooks as well for different zombie genres. The two systems are amazingly interchangeable. This just means skills are broken down into more specific labels, there is an extra stat (Essence), and weapons and armor do a range of damage/ protection rather than a set number of damage points as in Cinematic, a few other small differences. (Roll a d10, add skill + ability levels - a result of 9 or more succeeds.)ĪFMBE uses Classic Uni, which offers a tad more complexity than Cinematic Uni (used in games like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Army of Darkness).
